A Race Against Time: Saving Atlanta's Photographic History

Georgia State University Library’s latest exhibit highlights our photographic collections including the Atlanta Journal and Constitution Photographic Archives, Lane Brothers, Tracy O’Neal, Ernest G. Welch, Tom Coffin, and David Lennox. These visual treasures document local Atlanta, regional, and national issues from the 1920s through to the end of the 1990s. The exhibit explores the different types of photography from commercial to amateur as well as the complexities and challenges of preserving not only a variety of photographic prints and negatives but also born digital materials from 5-inch floppies to digital tiffs.

The exhibit will be open to the public from September 23, 2018 - July 1, 2019. Our online exhibit can be found at https://exhibits.library.gsu.edu/current/

Your generous financial contribution will go towards the restoration of some of the thousands of negatives in our collections in need of preservation. All donors will receive digital copies of the restored negatives for personal use. Thank you for your support!
